Lopez kicks Rossborough

San Manuel Casino, Highland, Ca, 10-25-12 – With three tough match-ups on the top of the card, including a 170 pound title match between world champion David Gomez and challenger Brad Burrick, there were plenty of possible scenarios for ringside observers to consider; not the least of which was the super heavyweight matchup between Nick Rossborough and KOTC multi-belt champion Tony Lopez. Also on the card was the heavy-handed former world champion and current top contender Brandon Hunt against rising star Johnny Cisneros, an electric fighter with energy to spare.

While Brad Burrick might have had dreams of an upset dancing in his head he was no match for David Gomez, who took no chances with his belt as he quickly dispatched the challenger with a barrage of punches for a 28 second first round win.

Brandon Hunt and Johnny Cisneros put on a three round slugfest with Cisneros being more active and landing more blows, but Hunt doing more damage when his blows landed. Had Hunt made more of an effort to get going early the fight might have had a different outcome as he always has a punchers chance, but he didn’t throw enough punches to land the big one and Cisneros' unrelenting attack got him the well-deserved three-round decision.

In the night’s hardest match to score Nick Rossborough dominated Tony Lopez in the first round but then became strangely passive in the second allowing Lopez to steal the round with a late flurry. In the final stanza Lopez was simply more active and although Rossborough came alive late it was not enough to catch the judges’ eyes and they gave Lopez a split decision win in a match that could have gone either way.

Preliminary action saw Sam Catlin get caught by a Sam Liera rear naked choke in the second round, Joshua Aveles beat Marcus Mowers by a doctor’s stoppage after slots online two rounds of constant leg kicks, an undersized but game Jason Ireland get dominated by Jason Walraven and get finished by a rear choke in the middle of round one, and Daniel Hernandez guillotine Vince Alaalatoa quickly in the first stanza.

Although losing his match, Rossborough impressed ringsiders with his power and agility which made Lopez’s win all the more impressive. Cisneros looks to be a star on the rise with a title shot in his future while Brandon Hunt cemented his reputation as a hard puncher with an even harder chin. David Gomez looked every bit the world champion he is in his quick victory and anyone wanting to take his belt had better be willing to bring it on. KOTC will be visiting San Manuel Casino again on December 20 with another great card and MMA fans should make a point to get out and see the big boys rumble live and in person!
