For the second consecutive show, industry insiders have revealed that Bellator has had to offer 2 for 1 tickets in order to fill seats for shows which include their Spike TV broadcasts in order to not show an empty house on camera. According to confidential but reliable sources who did not wish to be named, Both Soaring Eagle Casino and Winstar Casino have raised concerns with the struggling promotion about the lack of local public interest in their live events. This same problem faced the recently defunt Strikeforce and was also one of the main reasons that caused both ProElite and Affliction to close after incurring heavy debts in a short period of time. While the UFC has managed to keep live sales solid in the face of slipping ratings for online casino their Ultimate Fighter TV show, that feat in the current MMA environment has only been matched by King of the Cage in its proportional markets, as they have now done over 450 live events without ever having to resort to 2 for 1 ticket sales. With their new five year deal with MavTV to televise weekly KOTC events nationwide, and with the recent surprise annoucement that all-time MMA legend Tank Abbott is mounting a comeback to specifically fight for KOTC and to do color commentating, they are continuing to grow their domestic and international markets and generate considerable worldwide buzz. Bellator has faced recurring challenges with both matchmaking and local marketing and it appears, on the surface at least, that those issues might be starting to reflect on their public interest.
